Evidence status: CURRENT CONTROLLED-SUBSTANCE REGISTRATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS. Delaware connects controlled-substance registration with mandatory education on safe prescribing, pain treatment, and opioid-use-disorder recognition.
New controlled-substance registrants
Practitioners applying for a Delaware controlled-substance registration must complete the State’s mandatory one-hour, two-part course addressing safe prescribing and distribution of controlled substances, treatment of pain, and recognizing and treating opioid use disorder.
Biennial continuing education
Active controlled-substance registrants renewing every two years attest to completion of two hours of continuing education in controlled-substance prescribing practices, chronic-pain treatment, or related prescribing topics.
Rule foundation
The Uniform Controlled Substances Act Regulations require controlled-substance registration and controlled-substance education as part of Delaware’s broader regulatory system.
Why this matters to Contract for Care
The Treatment Agreement mandate is not an isolated form requirement. Delaware embeds it in a licensing and education framework designed to shape prescribing behavior across controlled-substance practitioners.
